Data Analyst/Data Science – R, Python, Hadoop
As a member of the Claims Advanced Analytics team, you’ll use advanced analytical, machine learning and data transformation techniques to develop practical tools and analyses that solve complex claims business problems. In some cases, you’ll use languages like R or Python to employ newer techniques like tree ensembles, neural nets, and clustering to solve questions that we’ve had for years. In other cases, you’ll try to answer questions that we really haven’t asked before. The problems you’ll have to solve are wide-ranging and will require a lot of different techniques, including some you’ll probably have to research, learn or create. Final products could range from just reporting out the results to simple web apps to more sophisticated visualizations and decision-support tools.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed to be Successful:
Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics or Statistics
5 years business experience with 2 years analysis experience; or Master's degree
Thorough understanding of business processes and systems knowledge
Intermediate computer skills including MS Office with advanced skills in Excel (knowledge of spreadsheet functionality: v-look-up, pivot tables, charts, graphing and macros)
Database experience including the ability to create PowerPoint graphs, tables and information reports in slide format
Proven aptitude for learning and using data analysis reporting tools
Highly proficient in SAS and SQL programming
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to prepare reports and conduct presentations
Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
Highly Preferred Skills and Experience:
Bachelors or advanced degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Quantitative Social Science, Quantitative Linguistics or related quantitative field
Experience with R, Python, Perl or similar programming or statistical scripting languages
Experience with distributed computing systems like Hadoop
Experience with data mining, statistical modeling, transforming and working with data from a variety of sources.
Experience with NLP or linguistics, representation theory, location preserving hashes, machine vision, experimental design, social network analysis or recommender systems
Experience with in-memory database and data transformation tools such as data.table or dplyr (R), pandas (python), K/Kona language
A demonstrated command of the concepts of model validation, statistical inference and feature engineering
Working knowledge of designing and developing, programming and supporting software programs/applications.
