Senior Cost Estimator - Automotive - Detroit, MI
We are seeking a Senior Cost Estimator for a large, global automotive manufacturing company. This position is located in UPSTATE, NY and relocation assistance is available.
Business Acquisition, Launch Stage and Serial Production
Responsible for the costing of complete assemblies and components including supplier tooling with a focus on powdered metal and screw machine commodities.Participating in negotiation with supplier to justify given cost structures, to prevent unrealistic cost delta from supplier side and to implement serial cost reductionInterface with engineering, cost controlling, sales, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain experts in the determination of part and tool costsOrganizing and conducting of Design to Cost Workshops with strategic supplier partners in order to assure the successful use of supplier knowledge throughout the complete life cycle serving Business Acquisition, Launch StageParticipating in negotiation with OEM customers to justify given cost structures and to prevent unrealistic cost delta from customer side
Serial Production
Responsible for cost justification and cost walk of design changes with OEM customers and suppliers
Process and tools:
Analyzing part and tool cost reduction ideas which will enable the organization to successfully convert the business opportunities into the necessary business awards and serial cost reductionUnderstanding key economic influences in the supply chain and making sure macroeconomic risks are effectively considered in bill of material costsWork with sales and engineering to develop modular costing methods in order to improve overall quotation and cost justification response time to our customersAnalyzing quotations from suppliers around the globe and making sure this data is reflected in a worldwide data base for the development of realistic should cost calculation over timeWork with Global Commodity Managers, Plant Buyers, Engineering teams and other disciplines to assure understanding of the Cost Estimation Process.
Qualifications
Functional/Technical Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in industrial or mechanical engineering required with a strong commercial or economics backgroundMaster's DegreepreferredBackground in cost estimation in a manufacturing environment is requiredAutomotive background in Supplier Development or Supplier Quality is strongly preferredExperience with Pro Calc software is preferredAdditional training or apprenticeship as a tool-maker would be considered advantageous for the candidateMS Office proficiency requiredEnglish fluent; additional languages would be beneficial for the positionAt least 10 years of industrial experience in powdered metal, screw machine and/or tool maker company
