MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The main purpose of this position is to receive, accession, process and prepare specimens/samples for testing and to enter data into the computer system, and expedite results for over 10,000 specimens/samples daily within the Laboratories Administration in its continuing mission of preserving the health and well-being of Maryland citizens.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate of Arts degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two years of experience performing public health, medical, or environmental laboratory testing.
Notes:
1. Completion of 60 credits from an accredited institution including 24 credits in medical laboratory technology or 24 credits of science courses including 6 credits in chemistry, 6 credits in biology, and 12 credits in any combination of chemistry, biology or medical technology, and the completion of an approved clinical laboratory training program or at least three months of laboratory training performing high complexity testing may be substituted for the required education. If using this substitution, your transcripts and/or proof of completion of approved laboratory training program MUST accompany the application.
2. A bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology may be substituted for the above specific education or training.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Science Research Officer classifications or Medical Laboratory Specialists specialty codes in the Science related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required required education and experience.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.
