The Manager, American Express Technologies Business Advisory Controllership role is a key role in providing business advisory and accounting guidance to the Technologies organizations. This role will be a primary point of contact for the Technologies business partners and LFO teams. The Manager, Technologies Business Advisory, reports directly to the Director, Technologies Business Advisory.
The Technologies Business Advisory Controllership team is, more broadly, part of the Global Corporate Services (GCS) & Enterprise Growth (EG) Business Advisory Controllership Organization. The GCS & EG Business Advisory Controllership organization supports these two large business areas and their respective Finance partners on a wide variety of accounting issues. Every major deal, product launch, transaction or business event that occurs within the GCS & EG families of businesses and products are served by the GCS & EG Business Advisory Controllership organization. Whether it’s client contract renewals in Global Corporate Payments, property leases in Global Real Estate & Workplace Enablement, vendor contracts in Global Supply Management, new product launches in Enterprise Growth, or hundreds of other unique business-driven transactions, the GCS & EG Business Advisory Controllership organization offers its employees exposure to a broad array of challenges and opportunities.
Primary responsibilities of this team include, but are not limited to:
Supporting business growth through activities such as reviewing business contracts and transactions related to software capitalization, hardware purchases and support services for the Technologies business. The team advises the business and LFOs on accounting treatment related to Technologies contracts and transactions through contract negotiation / execution
Perform detailed validation of expenses and general ledger reviews during close to ensure all accruals are captured appropriately in the ledger
Adhoc Financial Support Projects – The employee will support adhoc financial accounting and reporting requests and end to end process reviews
Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key Business and Finance partners, as well as counterparts within broader Controllership organization
Offer of employment with American Express is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background verification check, subject to applicable laws and regulations.
3-5 years of cumulative accounting/finance experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or CPA equivalent
Strong accounting and financial acumen with excellent communication skills
Excellent relationship management skills; ability to understand business drivers & manage expectations of business partners
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently from leader
Knowledge of American Express systems (Oracle)
Strong skills in excel and expense variance analysis
